How To Give When the Opportunity Arises
Giving to God is one of the greatest privileges that our gracious Father in heaven has bestowed upon us. When we see God for who He really is, we’ll begin to echo the words of King David, “But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.” (1 Chronicles 29:14)
Because everything comes from God and it’s a privilege to give, our posture should be to look for every opportunity to do so even above and beyond our percentage giving (tithe). Here’s a few practical tips on knowing how much to give when opportunities arise:
- Whatever the need or cause is, you are ultimately giving to God out of faith and worship. Therefore, giving is about the heart. Make it an amount that represents worship as well as faith.
- Pray regularly about your giving. God will speak to you.
- If your giving feels compulsory or burdensome, something is wrong. God is after cheerful givers and not dollar bills. Do you see the difference? He wants to use these opportunities to transform you into a cheerful giver (to be like Him). It’s never about the money. Take a step back to pray and ask God to show you where you are struggling. It could be an opportunity for real break through.
- Consider planning to give spontaneously. What that means is you make it a goal to save up extra money so that you are able to give as needs arise.
The following two Sundays, there is an opportunity to give so everyone at jubilee can go to Celebration MW. Please do pray about God would have you give. If you need help understanding the cost for this event, please go to the Celebration Midwest website.
